Second Class Ballet

On Tuesday 29th November, second class children will put on a little performance to which second class parents are cordially invited.

Ms. Curran's Class:              1:00pm

Each performance will last approximately 40 minutes.

"Sam Maguire 2016"

We were  delighted to welcome Ciarán Kilkenny of the Dublin Gaelic Football team with The Sam Maguire Cup to the school today.
The Junior School has recently been fortunate to have Jason Perry from the GAA to come and coach the children.

"Dress-Up" Day Friday 28th October

We will have various events on Friday 28th October both in class and in the whole school.  If you choose to send your child into school dressed up please be aware of their comfort for the day.  Also please leave any sticks, wands, brooms, swords e.t.c. at home.
Please talk to your child about safety during the Hallowe'en period.
There is NO half day on Friday 28th and school will re-open on Monday 7th November at 9:00am.

Online Safety Talk Thursday 27th October

Parents and Guardians are invited to attend an Online Safety Talk in St. Patrick's Parents' Room on Thursday 27th October 2016 at 9:00am.  This talk is provided by Cyber Safe Ireland and is open to all parents, guardians and grandparents of students in St. Patrick's Junior and Senior Schools.

Learning Support Meeting

If your child is receiving extra learning support teaching in the areas of numeracy and literacy, you are invited to meet with the learning support teachers in the hall on Thursday 6th October at 9am. At this meeting the teacher will outline how you can support your child in their school work.
You will have received a note from your child's class teacher. Please sign it and indicate if you are or are unable to attend.

Dogs Being Brought into the School Yard

It has come to Ms Kirwan's attention that dogs, both small and large, are being brought into the school yard at school opening and closing times. While everyone's dog is their little pet, in the context of the school yard they can pose a safety risk.
Please do not bring dogs into the yard for the safety of all the children.

2nd Class Graduation

It was an emotional day today as we said officially said goodbye to our 2nd class students who will be going to the Senior School in September. Memories and photos for the past four years were shared. We wish them all the very best for the future as they embark on the next stage of their education in the Senior School.

Visit from Minister Leo Varadkar

Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar was welcomed to our Breakfast Club today. The Minister spoke to the children and staff, he was made aware of the benefits to the children of a healthy breakfast in preparing for a day of learning and fun in St Patricks JNS.

This week our Junior and Senior Infants went on their school tours to Newbridge House and Newgrange farm. With wonderful weather, they all had a fantastic time. Both venues provide a wonderful day out and are open to families. Newbridge House and Farm Newgrange Farm

Collection of our 5th Green Flag

Our green school committee went to the Helix to the award ceremony to collect our 5th green flag which was awarded for our work on biodiversity. We will have a flag raising day soon. It was also a proud day for the senior school as they were awarded their flag for saving energy. A huge thank you to Mrs Dixon for all her hard work in heading up the committee.

Training Day for Teachers

The Dept of Ed has asked each school to hold a training day before the end of this school year for teachers. As working parents ourselves, we know that this is short notice, and we apologise - the materials for the training have only become available recently.
Both the Junior and Senior school are going to do the training on Tuesday 7th June. On this day, teachers will attend the school but children won't.
Please see the note your child brought home on 23rd May for more information on the new language curriculum.

School Assembly

Book week concluded today with a school assembly. Some children dressed up as characters from their favourite books. 2nd class acted out some stories, all the children recited poems about books and a few children read out stories that they had written themselves. A big thank you to Mrs Greene who organised the week.




Author Steve McCarthy

Author and illustrator Steve McCarthy shared his new book about Mountain Man who lives on Buffalo Mountain. He has yet to publish this book so he asked the children to help him with illustrations. The children enjoyed listening to the story and doing their own illustrations.

Library Trip

Yesterday as part of book week, all the children from Junior Infants to 2nd Class got to visit Blanchardardstown Library. They got to look at books and listen to a story. Hopefully all the children will revisit the library and join.

Review of standards of literacy and numeracy

As part of a study of schools the Education Research Centre has selected St Patricks JNS to review our standard of literacy and numeracy in 2nd class. This will involve the children taking tests in reading and maths and answering a short questionnaire. There will also be a questionnaire for parents.
All information will be treated confidentially and will only be available to the researcher. It is anticipated that this will happen next month. If you have any queries, please talk to the class teacher.

Book Week

We will be holding our Book week from Monday 18th - Friday 22nd April. Celtic travelling books will be supplying books to the school and there will be a sale with 3 for 2 (cheapest book free).

From 1:20-3pm Mon to Fri, the cash desk will be open for purchasing books in the school hall.

Tuesday 19th: The children will be going on a trip to Blanchardstown Library.
Wednesday 20th:Author and Illustrator Steve McCarthy will be sharing his latest book with all classes.
Thursday 21st: Senior Infant children will share in a big book experience with parents and guardians who are available to participate.
Friday 22nd: School assembly where the 2nd class children will host a reader's theatre
The children from all classes are invited to dress up as a character from a book if the wish to do so.

Proclamation Day

Today as a school community we remembered the 1916 rising. The Proclamation was read by Ms Kirwan and Oisin. The children in 1st and 2nd classes drew up new proclamations for their generation. The children in senior infants did a role play which showed us how the flag was designed, a bringing together of the two communities in Ireland with peace in the middle. The children in Junior Infants performed a poem and role play.
The Irish flag was raised and the National Anthem was sung. A day we hope the children will always remember.

Seachtain Na Gaeilge

Ta seachtain na Gaeilge ar siul sa scoil. Giggles the clown came to visit the children. He entertained them as Gaeilge with his puppets and balloons. Today we had a ceolchoirm. All the different year groups sang songs, Ms O'Brien's children performed a play and poem. Mrs Breen, Ms Cronin and Ms O'Doherty played some traditional music and we got to watch some Irish dancing. Go raibh maith agat to Mrs Owens for organising all the events.
