Proclamation Day

Today as a school community we remembered the 1916 rising. The Proclamation was read by Ms Kirwan and Oisin. The children in 1st and 2nd classes drew up new proclamations for their generation. The children in senior infants did a role play which showed us how the flag was designed, a bringing together of the two communities in Ireland with peace in the middle. The children in Junior Infants performed a poem and role play.
The Irish flag was raised and the National Anthem was sung. A day we hope the children will always remember.

Seachtain Na Gaeilge

Ta seachtain na Gaeilge ar siul sa scoil. Giggles the clown came to visit the children. He entertained them as Gaeilge with his puppets and balloons. Today we had a ceolchoirm. All the different year groups sang songs, Ms O'Brien's children performed a play and poem. Mrs Breen, Ms Cronin and Ms O'Doherty played some traditional music and we got to watch some Irish dancing. Go raibh maith agat to Mrs Owens for organising all the events.

Proclamation Day

All schools in Ireland are raising the Irish flag on Tuesday 15th March (Proclamation Day) to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising.
We would ask if your child could wear something green on that day.

Visit from Dublin Zoo

Jim Mc Monagle, the Education Outreach Officer came to visit us yesterday. He brought with him many exciting objects such as an elephant foot, skins from a snake, tiger and a leopard. He also showed us an elephant tooth and tusk. We learnt lots of interesting facts such as a giraffe makes no noise with its mouth and an elephant makes no noise when it walks.
